The College of Engineering at Cornell University is soliciting applications for a cluster of faculty hires in the general area of advanced materials design and engineering. Highly collaborative, visionary candidates are sought for these tenured or tenure track faculty positions, particularly those who will dramatically accelerate the design-to-application cycle of new advanced materials with properties superior to any known. Competencies desired for this cluster include those enabling (1) “synthesis by design” by providing theoretical guidance from computational thermodynamics, structure prediction, and defect energetics to help navigate kinetic pathways to get atoms into desired positions; (2) “autonomous synthesis” by providing real-time characterization and feedback on a relevant time scale to accelerate the discovery of new electronic materials; and (3) “radical proof-of-concept devices” that embraces untamed materials with great potential and devises ways to pattern, integrate, test, and exploit their performance in game-changing devices. The candidate’s appointment will be made to one or more of the following departments within the College of Engineering: Materials Science and Engineering, Applied and Engineering Physics, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. More information on Cornell College of Engineering’s strategic research focus is available at:  https://strategicplan.engineering.cornell.edu

The College of Engineering at Cornell and the MSE, AEP and ECE departments embrace diversity and seek candidates who will create a climate that attracts and is inclusive of people of all races, nationalities and genders. People from historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. We are a recognized employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans and Individuals with Disabilities. The required diversity statement should describe the candidate’s potential contributions to diversity and inclusion as detailed in the University’s Contribution to Diversity statement

Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, statement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, copies of publications or preprints as well as the  names and emails of at least 3 references.

The above application materials should be submitted online at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/24237

As part of a unique Radical Collaboration hiring initiative, the new multicollege Department of Design Tech together with the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Cornell University invite applications for two full-time, Assistant, Associate, or Full faculty positions in design technology & engineering beginning July 1, 2025, based in Ithaca, NY.

Design Tech at Cornell is a leader in the areas of design + materials, design + environments, and design + interactions, including new forms of intelligent and living materials and interfaces. We seek design candidates who can engage in the full breadth of the design tech curriculum with focused interests and demonstrable expertise in one of two distinct design research areas: the first intersecting with materials science, and the second intersecting with mechanical engineering.

Required application materials: (to be submitted digitally as a bookmarked pdf)

    1. Letter of application including intended rank, a brief statement outlining teaching and practice/research objectives and how the candidate's skills and experiences align with the required qualifications and search criteria.
    2. A full CV that highlights notable achievements.
    3. A portfolio of design practice/or research, pedagogical materials, and student work. A selection of peer-reviewed papers and publications are required.
    4. List of three references with telephone and mailing/email addresses. (Information about references must be provided at the time of application, but referees will not be contacted without notifying the applicant in advance.)
    5. We ask applicants for all faculty positions to share their experiences and/or approaches (past, current, or future) to fostering learning, research service, and/or outreach in a diverse community.
