MS&E is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Darrell G. Schlom to our faculty. Prof. Schlom comes to Cornell from Penn State University, where he has been teaching for a number of years. He has also worked as a research fellow at the University of Augsburg, a postdoctoral researcher at IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, and an R&D Engineer for Varian Associates. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Penn State Faculty Scholar Medal in Engineering, Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) Inventor Recognition Award, Penn State Wilson research Award, ASM International Bradley Stoughton Award for Young Teachers, AACG Young Author Award, and Young Investigator Awards from both NSF and ONR.
Prof. Schlom brings to Cornell tremendous expertise in the area of heteroepitaxial growth and characterization of oxide thin films, especially ferroelectric and multiferroic oxides, oxides on semiconductors for increased functionality (e.g., spintronics), or as potential replacements for SiO2 as the gate dielectric in MOSFETs.
