On September 2, 2009 more than 60 Freshman, and continuing MS&E students, participated in the MS&E Undergraduate Picnic. The picnic was held across from Bard Hall, on the fields next to Carpenter Hall. It was a beautiful sunny day, and students enjoyed mingling with faculty, and playing lawn games and volleyball.
Professors Shefford Baker and Christopher Umbach grilled burgers and hot dogs for the crowd. The highlight of the afternoon was when Professor Mike Thompson answered the materials challenge question through demonstration: "What does a balloon of Oxygen do when brought into contact with liquid nitrogen?"
