Polymers

Polymers are becoming the material of choice in many applications because they offer low cost and light weight; over the last decade discoveries have led to polymers with the high strength, conductivity or optical properties of other materials, often combined with unique processing and nanofabrication capabilities. Polymers are also the material most akin to biomaterials and are finding important use in many studies at Cornell related to biomedical engineering and nanobiotechnology. Hybrid materials and nanocomposites that combine polymers with nanoparticles and discrete inorganic phases are also being investigated by researchers at Cornell as materials with unprecedented physical characteristics
