Research in ceramics MS&E is focused on developing new nanostructured ceramics, on the in-depth understanding of single crystal growth, transport of matter and charge, and the nature of point defects in ceramic materials, as well as on investigating the structure and properties of silicate glasses. New nanostructures are explored using a novel synthetic approach: block-copolymer-directed silica synthesis, leading to exotic structures with the prospect of improving performance in, for example, fuel cell applications.
