The field of biotechnology and life sciences encompasses a wide area of research, which combines engineering with biological organisms. The work in this field spans from designing an electronic device, which is interfaced to a biological organism, to mimicking a biological process in order to engineer new materials. Through the Institute for Biotechnology and Life Science Technologies, scientists in MS&E work together with engineers, biologists, agricultural personnel, and medical scientists. The Cornell MS&E department excels in biologically inspired synthesis and biosensing.
