M.Eng. Program Description

Diana2
The M.Eng. program in MS&E allows students to work with faculty advisors and tailor their studies to personal interests and undergraduate backgrounds. Common areas of study for MS&E M.Eng. students include MS&E’s four strategic areas (Nanotechnology, Life Sciences, Information Technology, and Energy and Environmental Technology). In addition, M.Eng. students may choose to include a minor in one of the following program areas: Bioengineering, Engineering Management, or Systems Engineering. Students wishing to pursue a minor will work with their advisor to integrate these requirements into the overall MS&E M.Eng coursework.

30 academic credits are required for the M.Eng degree. This is currently divided into 18-22 credits of coursework and the M.Eng. design project, that accounts for 8-12 credits. The project may be an individual project under the guidance of an MS&E faculty member, an MS&E team project, or participation in a college-wide team project. Courses are approved by the M.Eng program director and may consist of a mix of MS&E courses (see Courses of Study for complete list) and courses offered by other departments as appropriate. Students may take some 600-level first year graduate courses, but most are 500-level courses that are either specialized or designed to allow students with a background outside MS&E to "catch up."
