Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Graduate Programs

Consistently ranked in the top ten (and currently seventh) in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, the Cornell Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) offers graduate students a world-class education in a world-class research environment.

The MS&E graduate field includes more than 40 faculty members across three colleges and 10 departments. MS&E graduate students develop a program of study under the graduate field and special committee systems which afford tremendous flexibility and allow students to customize their programs to specific needs and interests across four strategic research areas: Nanotechnology, Biological and Life Sciences, Information Technology, and Energy and Environmental Technology.

Our graduate programs emphasize the strong collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture on campus while also establishing fluency in a core set of concepts and principles critical to a fundamental understanding of Materials Science and Engineering.
