Materials Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that depends very broadly on physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics, as well as skill sets from all the engineering disciplines, to understand how materials work and how they can be improved. MS&E is a "science-y" field that uses deep knowledge of fundamentals to figure out how to make new devices.
