I am pleased to welcome you to the website for the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at Cornell University. The site is designed to reflect all that MS&E has to offer with information on research, academic programs, and the activities of our award-winning graduate and undergraduate students. We hope to provide website visitors with an array of useful information on such elements as the application process, undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and partnering with corporate, academic, and government collaborators.
The Department is highly recognized for its educational program and our faculty and their group members are internationally acclaimed for their research accomplishments. The Department currently has four strategic research areas: Biotechnology and Life Sciences, Energy and Environmental Technology, Information and Telecommunications Technology, and Nanotechnology. A visit to our research matrix will help you learn more about specific research initiatives and activities.
There are many exciting developments in store for MS&E in the months and years to come. First, we are currently searching for a new faculty member and plan to add several more tenure-track faculty positions in the coming years.
Additionally, we have recently revised the B.S. and Ph.D. curricula to better prepare our students for the dynamic array of options available to them upon graduation. Our undergraduate students continue to enjoy abundant research opportunities and benefit from access to numerous state-of-the-art facilities available on campus, including those in Duffield Hall.
I encourage you to come to campus and see several newly renovated research labs, get reacquainted with the faculty, talk with our students, attend a class, and get a firsthand look at all that is happening here in MS&E.
